Aṅguttara Nikāya - The Numerical Discourses

4: The Book of the Fours

VII. Deeds of Substance — AN 4.64: Hell

1“Mendicants, someone with four qualities is cast down to hell. What four? They kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, and lie. Someone with these four qualities is cast down to hell.

2Killing, stealing,
telling lies,
and visiting others’ wives:
astute people don’t praise these things.”

1"Catūhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye. Katamehi catūhi? Pāṇātipātī hoti, adinnādāyī hoti, kāmesumicchācārī hoti, musāvādī hoti – imehi kho, bhikkhave, catūhi dhammehi samannāgato yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ nirayeti.

2Pāṇātipāto adinnādānaṁ,
Musāvādo ca vuccati;
Paradāragamanañcāpi,
Nappasaṁsanti paṇḍitā"ti.
